Highways

Roads move in more than one direction--two lanes. Well actually, the roads don't move. The traffic does. The traffic on roads moves in two directions. Poems (and writing in general) seem to be more like a river, starting in one place and moving downhill.

What happens if a poem moves uphill? Or laterally? Or

Baby crying.

Sometimes a poem can move uphill, but readers chase it the whole way there, and when it arrives, a gun's at the finish line. Will you shoot it, or will I, love?
